My computer using Mozilla Firefox for browse Internet (and also Opera) and Mozilla Thunderbird for send and receive email. These are very good open source software to help us doing almost anything with Internet, like finding information, internet banking, social networking, mailing list, corespondent and many more. When doing anything at Internet, the most important think which is everyone have to be aware is about security. Some software will give update to fix security.

Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird are really concern about security, that's why this software always update their version beside improve their ability and functions, fix bug, also fix any security issue. They don't have any fix date to release the update, sometime need about more than a month, but sometime the update will be release more than twice in a month, this is really depend on situation and reporting from users about bug or security threat. As far as I know, when Mozilla give update more than once in a month, usually this is because of security reason or fix bug problem.

How to Update Firefox or Thunderbird?

We can update Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird with 2 way, Fist by download the new update from their website. Second option is ask Firefox or Thunderbird to update by itself. Whis is Good? This is depend on what we need. If we want to save the update for later installation, let's say we want to update more than 1 computer, better to download new software from their website. But if we only want to download at 1 computer, better ask Firefox or Thunderbird to update by itself.

Why, because at one case, if we want to download new update from their website, we have to download all size of Firefox or Thunderbird, for Firefox version 3+, the software size is more than 6MB. This is different when as Firefox (version 3+ earlier) to download latest 3+ version, usually the software is not more that 800KB, so of course this will make downloading by Firefox update will faster that download all size from website. To download from Firefox or Thunderbird software, open menu Help  > Check for Updates. Than follow the instructions to download the latest version.
