Record Favorite Movie with Sandisk V-Mate Digital Flash Memory Recorder

When you have a satellite home television or cable tv, there are so many good movie or sport  channel. Almost 24 hours we can see what we want. Usually home cable tv serve more than 50 channel to choose. For some people, they have many free time to wait the schedule, but some people don't have time to wait the movie or sport at specific time. They sometime only have free to watch movie or sport at night, not at the proper schedule by television stations schedule time. For solve this problem, record the movie or programs, then watch it at your free time.

I have a cable tv at my home, but I am the people who don't have so much time to wait my favorite movie schedule. Yes, maybe for some stations we still can wait for next repeat programs, but sometime I also don't have time to watch the repeat programs. That's why I looking forward for a gadget which can record my favorite movie programs.

There are many kind of gadgets to record, the price is vary start from less than US$20 such as tv card to plug at PCI of our computer, until more than US$200 without have to use computer to record. I already try use PCI TV Card, and I think this is ok with the price less than US$20, but I don't like to always turn my computer on. That's why I search of other gadgets. Until I found Sandisk V-Mate Video Memory Card Recorder.

The price for this product is reasonable, around US$75 for a stand alone gadgets to record the movie programs. With this product, we can easily record the favorite movie programs to a flash memory card. We don't have to use computer, the small Sandisk V-Mate module already support with many kind of flash memory slot such as:

  • SD, SDHC, miniSD, miniSDHC, microSD, microSDHC
  • RS-MMC (Dual Voltage)
  • MMCplus, MMCmobile
  • Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo

Sandisk V-Mate video input source is RCA with stereo sound recorder. The video type is PAL and NTSC. So, with the RCA , it can plug and receive input signal from camcorder, cable TV box, satellite tv receiver, VCR or DVD player.

The Sandisk V-Mate come with remote control to control all function at this gadget. From set datetime, schedule for movie time record up to 30 time slot, set IR emitter, and many more. After record the movie at memory card, we can also play the record files directly at Sandisk  V-Mate, so this gadget also can act as movie player and also USB slot can make it act as memory card reader, but the USB still go with USB 1 type.

This product have to always connect to power adapter, because datetime will back to default if the Sandisk V-Mate lose power connection. So, it have to set datetime again from the beginning. But the schedule time slot and IR Emitter program will permanently there.

One think that I really like from this Sandisk V-Mate is IR Emitter which can connect to the many type of satellite or cable tv, VCR or DVD infrared eye, so once Sandisk V-Mate already set and can communicate, we can schedule the satellite or cable tv at specific time to turn on and also automatically choose the program number, all command are send by Sandisk V-Mate IR Emitter. It also can turn on the standby cable/satellite tv receiver box, choose the program number and record it to flash memory. After recording finish, the Sandisk V-Mate also can send turn off command for the cable/satellite tv receiver box.

Sandisk V-Mate have ability to update the firmware. First, download the latest firmware from http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1451. Copy firmware files to memory card, then do update firmware from Sandisk V-Mate menu by choosing at remote control. Then it will automatically update the firmware. When finish update, the Sandisk V-Mate have to be restart by turn-off then turn-on again. The firmware files than we stored at flash memory card will be deleted by itself. Finish, now the Sandisk V-Mate  updated already. We can try to check the firmware version at Sandisk V-Mate firmware menu.
